Overview

Triptorelin is a GnRH agonist FDA-approved as TRELSTAR for advanced prostate cancer. Non-U.S. labeling extends use to endometriosis, fibroids, hormone-responsive breast cancer, infertility protocols, and central precocious puberty (Decapeptyl).

Mechanism

Like other GnRH agonists, triptorelin causes an initial sex-hormone flare and then suppresses gonadotropin release with continued administration — the basis for its use in androgen deprivation and ovarian suppression. The pharmacology supports long-acting depot formulations with monthly to half-yearly dosing intervals.

Dosing notes
